Our vision
The countryside should not have to choose between tradition and future
Creanda wants to make Macchia an internationally recognised place for rural innovation, entrepreneurship, remote work and sustainable local development.
Why this project exists
Young people leave rural villages in southern Italy not because they want to, but because opportunities live elsewhere. Every departure weakens the local economy a little more: schools, shops, restaurants and services lose their base, and empty houses replace families. The problem is not a lack of ambition — it is the missing link between local life and the global economy.
A local future through global work
Remote work, AI and digital tools have removed the technical barriers. What remains to be built is the local infrastructure: a place with fast internet, education, mentors, networks and confidence. When that exists, a young person in Macchia Valfortore can serve customers in Stockholm, Milan or New York — without leaving home.
Where tradition meets innovation
Agriculture, food, craft, culture and the Italian way of life are not obstacles to be modernised away. They are the region's strongest assets — part of one of the strongest brands in the world: Italy. The project's role is to care for that inheritance and turn it into a springboard for the next generation of rural entrepreneurs — through experiences, products, hospitality and stories the world already loves.
A model for Europe's countryside
Macchia Valfortore is the starting point, not the end point. The development is regenerative by design: restored stone houses instead of new construction, food chains that strengthen the land, and a community that keeps its skills and its young people. If the pilot proves that global income can create local development, Creanda becomes a reproducible model for other rural municipalities in Italy and across Europe.
